Book Six Is In The Works!

It’s been a while. I know. I’ve been saying — at least to myself — for a few months now that it was time to get started on my next book.

But first, why have I been so quiet? Well, I’ve been working on something that isn’t a book, but is tangential. A couple of years ago, I wrote myself a little app that I ran on my Mac that would help me fight piracy by watermarking my ARC files. A simple email address overlaid onto a PDF or embedded into an ePub. Simple, but effective. It cut down on my piracy quite a bit.

So I’ve been working on making it a web app. And it turned into 17 different tools. Collectively called The Author’s Toolbox (link here if you’re interested as an author!). And, because my brain can’t do more than one thing at a time, I wanted to finish that and get it into beta before I started writing. Now that it’s “done” and out there, I’ve freed up my mind to focus on writing.

I started last week while I was on my annual “It’s my birthday, I took a week off” vacation. I wrote and I wrote and I wrote. And then realized the thing I thought I wanted to write about just wasn’t working. It wasn’t clicking with me. I still love the idea I had, but I tabled it for the time being and went back to my second idea. The second idea, however, clicked. And has been clicking each time I sit down to write. Every time I open the document and start typing, an hour goes by before I even know it. In the blink of an eye, I have a few thousand words jotted down. And, much to my happiness, they all make sense, too.

As usual, I’m keeping the premise and working title a secret. Not because I think anyone will steal it, but because I’m a big weirdo, and I like to keep it to myself until I’m ready to reveal it.

But I wanted to update you to tell you I’m working on it. Oh, and I updated my website recently, too. I finally ditched WordPress and re-built it all from the ground up using a more modern framework that lets me do more, but also makes the whole site a lot faster. Checkout is no longer sluggish and should feel like a better experience for you. Any coupons you may have been saving should work, but if not, let me know.
